The Hardest Part of Your Journey is Getting Started

Week One & Two of My Journey to a Half Marathon

As you readers may know from the blog, I have embarked on a journey to run a half marathon. This journey is one that is difficult and yet so rewarding. I look forward to taking you guys along my journey with me and seeing the progress I make. I have decided to make this an 8-week-long training period and I am following along with a specific training plan. I am following Brett Westover's training program and it not only gives tools for running but also he allows his followers to also incorporate strength training as well as different styles of cardio.

I wrapped up training week two yesterday, Saturday, February 12th, and it was the most taxing run yet. Although I did not feel as tired as I thought I would, I experienced knee pain as well as a stomach cramp. It was extremely cool to see how far my body could run, yet I could tell the training was taking a toll on me physically. Due to this, my goals for this upcoming week are to stretch on days I am not running as well as drink a lot more water. I believe this will improve my runs by stopping potential cramps and strengthening my knees. Yesterday we ran 6 miles and which is almost half of a half marathon. That blows my mind and it makes me think I can achieve this goal of mine of running a half marathon.

It has been the sweetest thing to see how much my body has improved over the last couple of weeks and I am excited to see the progress I make over the weeks to come. I am running in the Bearathon and although it is known to be "the toughest half in Texas" I love how all the money supports student scholarships. Not only because I am a student with scholarships but also the fact that this race is open to the public. It is a community race that helps students like me.
