I am exactly one week out from running the Bearathon. The last two weeks of training have been intense and rewarding. I was able to run along the beach in Florida during spring break and it was incredible. Although it was humid, seeing the ocean, palm trees, and sand beneath my feet was worth it. I even got one of my friends to run with me which made it more bearable.
The second Saturday of spring break was the toughest run I will ever do until the half marathon. I ran it alone and running that long requires a lot of mental toughness. Thankfully, my mom was kind enough to bring me water and words of encouragement along the route. The following week after spring break was restful. It was shorter and easier runs to let my body recover from the previous 12 miles.
Today, was the last long run I will do until next Saturday. I decided to run along the course of the Bearathon to get my footing and see what the terrain will be like. It was gorgeous running along the Brazos River and the scenery was incredible. I am interested to see how my body recovers this week and really need to focus on taking care of it. Even though I still have running to accomplish, they are light runs to keep my body moving before the big day.
Getting the right nutrition in and doing the things necessary to recover will make all the difference next Saturday. Making sure to carb load on Friday night will be crucial as well as hydrating throughout the week. I am also interested to see how much easier it will feel running in a race environment versus alone. Thank y'all for following me along on this journey - now let's race to the finish!
